Mickel Makes Plans with Parker after Spectacular Crash
John Mickel was involved in a spectacular crash in the opening rounds of the 2023 UK National Legends Championship at Cadwell Park. Horsham based Mickel was rushed to Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby following an enormous crash where bystanders witnessed his 5/8th scale 34 Ford Coupe literally take off, performing multiple high-speed rolls in the air before coming to rest on its side. The rescue crew, marshals, medics, and some stunned drivers pulled Mickel from his wrecked car.
The five times UK Legends Champion continues to recover well at home having spent two nights in the Lincolnshire hospital but due to Motorsport UK rules following large crashes such as these, he is now forced to make alternative plans for his #4 Quiksteel Legend car to compete in the Legends Elite Cup, where these pocket rockets will be supporting the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch over the May 6/7 weekend.
Mickel commented “That crash was a big one and I am obviously very disappointed not to be allowed to drive at Brands for such a prestigious event, but I am also very grateful that I’m ok and to have been supported by so many fantastic people. It was important for me to ensure my marketing partners are represented at the BTCC rounds, especially as there is live coverage on ITV and ITV4 of the event.”
As a result of John being temporary suspended from racing on health grounds, Mickel Motorsport have signed Jack Parker for all rounds of the Legends Elite Cup 2023, taking place over three weekends with BTCC. Parker, from Wolverhampton, was a race leader in the 2022 UK National Legends Championship and a driver who started his Legends career with Mickel Motorsport back in 2012.
John Mickel added “Even if I can’t drive myself, it was also important for me to have a great driver in my seat, and I feel Jack is a great fit with us!”
Jack Said “I was surprised to have been contacted by John Mickel and have him ask if I would be willing to drive his #4 Quiksteel race car at the touring car rounds while he continues to recover from his recent devastating accident. This is a great opportunity for me to get back behind the wheel of a race winning car and at such a big event. I started out my own racing journey in 2012 with John Mickel before pursuing on my own. I look forward to working with and supporting Mickel Motorsport again and I hope I can bring in some good results for the team!”
