Mickel Mixes it up at Donington
John Mickel and the crew have just returned from Donington in the Midlands following a weekend filled with ups and downs. When it was good it was very very good and whet it was wet it was horrid!
Saturday 25th July – Round 10
The sun was shining and the mood was good. The guests from Forest Traffic Services Ltd and Dickiesstore.com were waiting with anticipation to see how the race day would turn out as John Mickel enters the 10th Round of the UK National Legends Championship in the Number 4 K-Seal Legend as leader, but with so much to lose, there was a lot to play for.
Race 1
John started in 18th place but was soon in the top ten. The front runners were working well together to command a good lead. Once the leaders began to fight for 1st place, John took the opportunity to catch them. A four way battle commenced with all four cars swapping places. The last lap saw Ben Power taking a sceptical short cut through the gravel to cross the finish line in a first place, with John hot on his heels but shortly after the race had been completed it was announced that Power’s win came with a penalty, putting John into first place.

Race 2
John started on row two. Having gained the lead by the very first bend, a large crash brought the red flags out. The race was restarted placing John back on the second row. John did not get away so cleanly the second time, with racing being as close as ever and constant lead changes, the spectators were left gasping, not knowing who’s race this was going to be. With the race being cut short by two laps, there just wasn’t enough of an opportunity for John to reach the front of the pack and so settled for fourth place.

Race 3 – Final
As one of the highest point’s earners so far on the day, John started the Final from the rear of the field. With a ten lap race ahead of him, John started cautiously as cars collided. He slowly made his way through the field and with just three laps to go it looked like he would likely finish third. He set his sights firmly on the leaders and made up 2.5 seconds in just one lap. With two laps to go, the crowd started to believe that he might actually make it to the front. John wasted no time on the final lap and was soon in the leader's rear view mirror. The two of them came out of the final bend side by side and John just made it into first place at the finish by 1/1000 of a second!
What a great finish to the day!

Sunday 26th July – Round 11
The weather forecast was not looking good and the arrival time for the rain was crucial for the decision on what tyres to choose. With VIP guests from MVIS, Sony and K-Seal, John was keen to put on a good show.
Race 1
John started from pole. Would this be a wet or dry race? Soon after the start, the heavens opened. John struggled with grip and did all he could to bring the Number 4 car home in one piece finishing in 8th

Race 2
It was a very wet race! John started in 18th. He had to take to the grass to avoid six spinning cars on the first lap. This allowed the rest of the pack to get well ahead. The cars became strung out in the very wet conditions but John slowly picked his way past six cars to take 12th place at the chequered flag.

Race 3 – Final
This was the wettest race of the day and it started with John on the 6th row. John was taken out twice by spinning cars but he continued to battle hard to take 13th place at the finish. Despite a wet and dismal day both in the weather and the results on Sunday, with such a great start on Saturday, John still leads the Championship. Next double header round is at Silverstone on 8th & 9th August.
